On Monday this week we had some coaches come from Northern Cricket District to give you a taster session on cricket. This was an opportunity for you to explore the skills involved in this sport and see if you had an interest in this. Marc, first you played a quick warm up game, then using a tennis ball you had to see how many times you could clap, whilst throwing a ball in the air and catching it again. You had to be careful when you released the ball from your hand, high into the air to ensure you could easily catch it again. Next, you moved on to either hitting or collecting the balls. Marc, when it was your turn to bat one of the coaches explained how to hit the ball by gripping the bat correctly, standing with relaxed knees and looking forward to aim where you wanted the ball to go. Once the whistle blew you hit the ball, then ran around the courts to gain ‘runs’ for your team. When collecting the balls you had to perform different movements, such as bunny hopping or ‘following the leader’ to collect all balls and tees as fast as possible. Once all the balls and tees were back at the start line the batters gaining runs stopped. You participated positively amongst your peers and learnt some new skills that will transfer into other physical activities. You demonstrated the value of being confident and curious by giving everything a go and having success at performing some cricket drills. Marc, it was great to see you amongst all the action – ka pai!
