Zooming through the alphabet

Marc, I watched in amazement today as you confidently raced through the matching activity that I had set up at the bench today.

I had written the uppercase letters on the bench and the aim of the game was to match that letter with the lowercase wooden circle.

The alphabet chart was near you but in this activity you did not need it; this was all done by your memory and brainpower.

Starting at A, you confidently found the lowercase a and then zoomed through the rest of the letters all the way to Z.

Marc, I really enjoyed watching you at this activity today; when I had set it up, you were first there ready and asking if you could have the first turn. I could see that you were taking responsibility for your own learning and enjoyment in the Kiwi room.

This activity drew on your memory and ability to recall information; you obviously knew which letters matched together because you weren’t using the chart at all.

Even though you sped through this activity, it did require perseverance and determination to get through all 26 letters of the alphabet. Well done to you, Marc.

I look forward to seeing what other literacy capabilities you have.
