South Island – Day 2

CHRISTCHURCH

Even the start of this journey was glamorous. The first stop was terrific and terrifying. The IAC – International Antarctic Centre was our first stop, and we couldn’t wait to enter. The first part of their tour was unexpected. We got told to sit in Hagglund’s ride, which was not even close to what we expected. The instructor told us it would be exciting and shaky. The shaky part was an understatement. The ride was deadly. After the first hill, the ride frightened little ones and was very unexpected. We slowly shook up the first hill and VERY unexpectedly sped down. The ride was a bit better after that. We drove onto more expected hills, and suddenly drove on very uneven surfaces, into the water and even sideways. After that intense ride, we mindlessly walked inside and discovered some cute little blue penguins. They weren’t interesting, but quite a sight to see. The part everyone has been waiting for, we found the huskies. Not in the place you would expect them to be. We found them in the Real Antarctic Room. Without notice, a fake snow storm happened where it was suddenly frigid and windy. Sadly, the huskies ran out of the room as if nothing occurred. We got bored of standing around in the cold and the wind, so we did what was reasonable. We got out and looked for the penguins again. Luckily for us, it was feeding time. Annoyingly, somehow we got bored of that as well. We found a little science room which we played in for like 5 minutes and then walked out of. Then we noticed that we could watch a movie and then finally actually look for the huskies. The 4D movie was boring, but the effects were finalised. I got splattered on the face with water and the chair shook a lot. We left over excited and found the 3 huskies – 2 white, 1 black. Knowing my sister, I stepped out of the way and behind me, my sister charged at the dogs as if being one of them. My personal favourite dog was without a doubt, one of the white ones. Christchurch was too fun and big for one day so we were going to explore Christchurch even more the next morning. We were tired so we went to our hotel which without notice had a heated toilet in it.
