South Island – Day 11

SEDDON

We continued driving, and the weather continued to get worse. We eventually hit floods and after we had passed Seddon, a disaster happened. The flood was too strong, we couldn’t pass. That also meant that we would have to cancel our ferry ride and then reschedule it. Even though we were stressed we needed to calm down and find another plan. To calm down, I meant to go to the toilet. We wandered to Seddon’s information centre and they told us to go to the memorial hall where anyone was welcome. We could go there to take shelter, where notices would be given out about the flood. We didn’t have much to do in the hall, so I found a group of children who were playing a game of dodgeball, my favourite P.E game. After a tiring loud game of dodgeball, they put on a movie which I wasn’t interested in. Instead, I played a game on the iPad. After a few hours of waiting, we got some good news. The flood water was starting to lower down and some cars could go past. After a few more minutes of waiting, our car could go past. Our next destination was Blenheim. We urgently booked a hotel there and drove as fast as we can to the hotel. Not knowing the next day’s weather, we went to bed as soon as possible and woke up the following morning with the hope of no rain. Luckily, it wasn’t raining at all, so we could wander around Blenheim and Picton.
